Business Services:	Norman Parish, artist and Bachelor of Fine Arts graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, moved to Washington, DC from Chicago in 1988. In 1991 he opened Parish Gallery of Georgetown, in Canal Square as a showcase for contemporary visual artists working in painting, sculpture, and photography mediums presenting fine art. On June 21, 1991, he awoke with anxious energy - prior to this he and his wife, Gwen had worked tirelessly in preparing for the evening known in Canal Square, Galleries 1054 art circles as the Third Friday openings. That Friday marked the beginning of hundreds of art openings Parish Gallery would host. The gallery is pleased to boast of its longevity, being that we have remained in the same location. While beginning as a gallery which primarily, but not exclusively, exhibits the fine art of African and African Diaspora artists, the gallery has become a renowned home for numerous local and international artists from countries all over the world. Exhibitions have included artists from South and North America, Asia, Africa, and Europe totaling over 100 artists in both group and solo exhibitions. You will find that in our exhibitions the commonality is not the artist’s ethnicity but the color, line, texture, form, and perceptions of their world. Making the important emphasis on the necessity of financially supporting the artists thus, improving the awareness of a larger buying population. In June of 2011 the gallery will celebrate 20 years, showing the longevity of our years of cultural enlightenment and cultural expressions, determination, perseverance, and fortitude. Parish Gallery provides a cultural, visual, educational, and spiritual home for the arts where individuals, regardless of one’s cultural background can feel “at home in the world”.
