A Guide to Paint By Numbers

Paint by numbers is an artist kit that includes a canvas board, paint, paint brushes, and a guide. The canvas board has an outline of an image printed on it with each section of the image numbered. Each number corresponds with a specific colour, that way you know exactly which colour to use and in which section of the image. Once all of the sections are coloured in, the completed painting will look exactly like a replication of the image you ordered. Paint by numbers kits use acrylic paint and usually include 1 - 4 paint brushes as well as occasionally a varnish depending on where you get the kit from. This relaxing activity can take as long as you would like it too. With it being able to be finished very fast or very slow, all depending on your pace. It is good to note that acrylic paint dries very quickly, with it taking roughly 10-20 minutes to be completely dry. How to Make Paint By Numbers

Not only are you able to purchase these paintings in stores or online, but you can also make your own from home! Using a simple tool such as photoshop or illustrator will get the job done. To do this, you must upload your chosen image to one of these apps. This can be an image of nature, your pet, yourself or loved ones, food, or your favourite place! There are no limits. After uploading your image, begin by changing it to a Low Fidelity Photo under the Image Trace bar. This will reduce the image to a lower resolution, creating a painting like effect as well as distinguishing all of the individual colours. Then click Expand and each colour section will be outlined when the mouse is hovered over it. Begin selecting each colour from the image that you want to include in your paint palette. Copy these colours and place them in a blank square off to the side of the image. After each square has been filled with your colours, number them off. Then place the numbers in the corresponding colour on the image to create a map. Then select the entire image and change its colour to white. Select the blank white image again and click the outline button and change the colour to black. Select the whole image one more time and change the Stroke to a higher number such as 2 in order to see the outline of the image more clearly. There you will have an outline of your image completely numbered off with the correct colours. Then all you have to do is print the image or upload it to a printing site and find the proper paints and begin your paint by numbers activity.

There are other easier options to create your own personalized paint by numbers that doesn't include a step by step guide to photoshop or illustrator. There is a website called PBNify where all you have to do is upload your chosen image. Then you select on the image the colours for your paint palette. After all the colours are selected, click the PBNify button and it will convert your image into a paint by numbers template. Save the image and you can then have it printed at any print shop but you will have to source your own paints. Another option is to save the template and upload it to Paintable Pictures where you can then choose the size, rather 12 x 15, 16 x 20, or 22 x 27 inches. You can also upload your original images unedited to Paintable Pictures and they will edit it for you. Paintable Picture orders include your original painting template on canvas, 36 pods of acrylic paint customized to your image, 3 different sized paint brushes, and a preview of your paint by number on a photo.
